The Lagos State Government has announced temporary road closures across key areas of Lagos Island ahead of the 2026 Fanti Carnival, set for Monday, April 6, urging residents and motorists to plan their journeys accordingly.
Through the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the government revealed traffic management plans to ensure a smooth flow during the event. Roads scheduled for closure from 7:00 a.m. include King George V Road at the Mobil Filling Station junction, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street near the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street near St. Nicholas Hospital.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced alternative routes to ease congestion. Vehicles traveling from Obalende toward Onikan Roundabout will be redirected to Zone 2. Traffic from Bonny Camp toward McEwen Bridge, as well as from Flagstaff House to TBS, will use Obalende Bridge. Similarly, motorists from Outer Marina heading to TBS will follow the same diversion.
Authorities appealed for patience and cooperation, emphasizing that the closures are necessary to ensure the safety and enjoyment of carnival attendees. They also acknowledged potential inconveniences while underscoring the cultural importance of the Fanti Carnival in Lagos’ tourism calendar.
