President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed top economic officials to design strategies aimed at reducing the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on Nigerians.
The directive was given on Friday during a civic reception in Yenagoa, shortly after the inauguration of key infrastructure projects executed under Governor Douye Diri’s administration.
Tinubu tasked the Ministries of Finance and Budget and Economic Planning, along with the Head of the Civil Service, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, to come up with measures to cushion the economic strain, especially the surge in fuel prices triggered by global instability.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties facing citizens, the President reassured Nigerians of government support, noting that the country’s situation remains relatively stable compared to some other African nations.
“This administration is committed to easing the burden on citizens. We will work with relevant institutions to assess the situation and implement solutions that provide relief,” Tinubu said.
He reiterated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is focused on delivering practical benefits through governance, including infrastructure development, job creation, and expanded economic opportunities.
The President also stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments, praising Diri for aligning state projects with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Projects commissioned include a 60-megawatt gas-fired independent power plant in Elebele, the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, and the New Yenagoa City Road.
In his remarks, Governor Diri credited federal support for the successful delivery of the power project, describing it as a significant step toward improving electricity supply in the state. He added that the initiatives would enhance economic activity, boost connectivity, and improve living standards.
Tinubu also paid tribute to fallen members of the armed forces and observed a minute of silence in honour of former Bayelsa governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Other notable figures present at the event included Governors Hope Uzodimma, Dapo Abiodun, Umo Eno, and Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside former Delta State governor James Ibori and media entrepreneur Ben Murray-Bruce.
The federal government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with state governments to drive nationwide economic growth, job creation, and infrastructure development.
