The Nigerian Army has detained a popular social media influencer and several soldiers following online posts highlighting grievances over feeding and welfare conditions within the military.
Justice Mark Chidiebere, widely known by his online alias “Justice Crack,” was taken into custody alongside the affected soldiers after videos and posts surfaced on social media in which troops voiced complaints about their welfare. The Army’s acting director of public relations, Appolonia Anele, confirmed the arrests in a statement released Saturday.
Military authorities say the matter is being investigated as a potential violation of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy, with concerns also raised about attempts to mislead the public. According to preliminary findings, Chidiebere allegedly engaged soldiers in conversations that encouraged unrest within the ranks, with some of those exchanges touching on what the Army described as subversive subject matter.
“Situations where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion have far-reaching implications on discipline and national security,” the statement noted.
While the soldiers involved remain in military custody, Chidiebere has been transferred to civilian authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Army maintained that its actions were consistent with the rule of law, and pledged continued cooperation with relevant agencies to protect national security while ensuring accountability.
