Nigerian afro-house star Niniola Apata is grieving the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, in an announcement that has left fans and followers in shock.
The singer broke the heartbreaking news through a series of raw, emotional posts on her Instagram story early Wednesday morning. In her own words, she wrote that God had taken him, and that he had died — adding with striking grief that their bond had spanned 13 years.
Michael Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform dedicated to afro-house and contemporary African music. No official cause of death has been disclosed, and the family has not released further details.
The loss is especially poignant given how closely Niniola has guarded her personal life over the years, rarely letting the public into her private world.
The 39-year-old singer first rose to prominence as one of the standout contestants on Project Fame West Africa in 2013, later cementing her place as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated music exports. Her 2017 smash hit Maradona propelled her onto the global stage, earning her high-profile collaborations and an international fanbase.
The announcement carries an added layer of complexity. In a prior interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Niniola had dismissed rumours of a secret marriage, firmly stating she was not married and had no reason to hide anything about her personal life.
