Hon. Tare Porri, who represents Ekeremor Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election ahead of the assembly polls.
Porri announced his withdrawal on May 19, 2026, only hours before delegates were expected to cast their votes, a move that has now reshaped the contest.
The lawmaker, who had sought the APC ticket to return to the Assembly, said his decision followed wide consultations with family members, political associates, constituents, party stakeholders, and leaders within the APC.
Despite stepping down from the race, Porri commended the party leadership for ensuring a fair and transparent primary process.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged to support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
Porri expressed appreciation to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and Bayelsa APC Chairman Warman Ogoriba for their support and leadership.
The lawmaker urged his supporters to remain peaceful and committed to the party, stressing that he remains dedicated to serving his constituency.
“I remain committed to my legislative duties and to the party,” he said, assuring constituents that he would continue to represent them diligently until the end of his tenure.
