A political pressure group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola to petition the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, over the alleged continued parade of Dumebi Kachikwu as a leader of the ADC.
The group made the call ahead of the party’s presidential primary election scheduled to hold in Abuja, warning that the lingering leadership dispute could create tension within the opposition party and affect Nigeria’s democratic process.
In a statement released on Monday, the group accused Kachikwu and his supporters of allegedly presenting themselves as officials of the ADC despite court rulings recognizing the leadership led by David Mark.
The statement also criticized sections of the Nigerian media for publishing reports suggesting a deepening crisis within the ADC, including claims that a faction loyal to Kachikwu had removed the current leadership and announced a separate presidential candidate.
According to the group, the Supreme Court had in April 2026 affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led leadership and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize it officially.
The group further alleged that INEC had already complied with the judgment by restoring the names of the recognized ADC leadership on its official portal.
It also claimed that previous attempts to create divisions within the party through different factions had failed, adding that recent developments involving Kachikwu were part of efforts to destabilize the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement maintained that Kachikwu had earlier been suspended and removed from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
The group also referenced decisions by the Federal High Court, where judges reportedly dismissed suits filed against the David Mark-led leadership on grounds relating to the internal affairs of the party.
In addition, the statement accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the ruling APC of allegedly attempting to weaken opposition parties ahead of the next general election.
The group urged media organizations to exercise caution in reporting political developments and avoid publications capable of escalating tensions within the polity.
