The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has confirmed the rescue of a kidnapped victim and the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in Otu, Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies, also led to the rescue of a man identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, aged about 50.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the statement, the incident followed a distress call received on May 25, 2026, after local hunters were attacked by suspected kidnappers while on a hunting expedition in Otu.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on the hunters, although no casualties were recorded in the initial assault.
Acting on the alert, a combined team of police operatives, local hunters, and other security personnel was immediately mobilised to the location.
Upon arrival, the security team was also engaged in a gun battle after the suspects opened fire on them.
The police said the criminals were eventually overpowered through a superior tactical response and coordinated effort, resulting in the killing of three suspected kidnappers.
The abducted victim, who was allegedly kidnapped in Okaka and held in the Otu area, was rescued during the operation but sustained gunshot injuries and was quickly evacuated for medical attention.
One of the local hunters also sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a machete, all of which have been taken for investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State commended the bravery and collaboration of the local hunters and other security operatives involved in the operation, describing their efforts as instrumental to its success.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
