The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled an illegal detention camp operating in Lagos State, rescuing 24 individuals and arresting four foreign nationals suspected to be behind the criminal operation.
The operation, which was carried out by NSCDC operatives following intelligence reports, led to the discovery of a facility where victims were allegedly held unlawfully under harsh and dehumanising conditions. Officials said the raid was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on human trafficking networks and illegal confinement centres across the country.
During the operation, 24 victims were successfully rescued from the facility. Preliminary findings suggest that the individuals were being held against their will, with indications that they may have been subjected to intimidation, abuse, and restricted movement.
Security operatives also arrested four foreign nationals at the scene, who are believed to have played key roles in running and managing the illegal detention camp. Authorities have yet to release further details about their identities or countries of origin as investigations continue.
The NSCDC confirmed that the rescued victims have been taken into protective custody, where they are receiving medical evaluation, psychological support, and necessary humanitarian assistance. The corps is also working with relevant agencies to ensure proper rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims.
According to officials, the illegal facility may have been operating under the guise of a legitimate establishment, a tactic increasingly used by criminal networks to conceal unlawful activities. Investigators are currently probing the full extent of the operation, including possible collaborators and the duration of the camp’s activities.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to eradicating illegal detention centres and other forms of human exploitation across the country. It warned that individuals or groups involved in such crimes would be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The corps also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that community cooperation is essential in tackling trafficking and related offences.
The arrested suspects are expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations, while efforts continue to uncover any additional victims or linked operations.
