Senator Seriake Dickson, former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, has announced the death of his longtime personal aide, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zamani Tanko, who died following a road accident in Abuja.
Dickson broke the news on his Facebook page Thursday, describing Tanko as more than a staff member — a loyal brother and cherished member of his family.
According to the senator, he received a distressing call Wednesday morning that Tanko’s vehicle had collided with a truck in Abuja, leaving him unconscious at the scene. Members of Dickson’s team quickly responded and rushed the retired police officer to the National Hospital Abuja, where the senator later joined them to ensure prompt medical care was arranged.
Despite the best efforts of a surgical team assembled to save his life, Tanko did not survive the operation, passing away later that afternoon.
In a heartfelt tribute, Dickson wrote: “It is with deep sadness that I announce the sudden passing of my beloved departed aide DSP Zamani Tanko (RTD), who over the years has become a brother and member of my family, who served Nigeria loyally as a police officer for 35 years.”
The senator noted that Tanko had served on his personal staff for fifteen years, handling a range of responsibilities beyond security. He was, Dickson said, among his most trusted aides — affectionately called “Uncle Zamani” by members of his household.
“I, my entire family and members of my staff have been devastated since this call,” the senator added.
Dickson extended condolences on behalf of his family and staff, honouring Tanko’s decades of faithful service to both the country and his office.
