Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 22 kidnapped victims in separate operations across Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The rescued victims comprised 17 travellers and five farmers who had been abducted by terrorists during attacks on communities in the state.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists over the weekend.
Danja said both operations were launched following credible intelligence and distress calls received from affected communities.
In the first incident, troops on June 18 received reports that terrorists had blocked the Sabon Birni-Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village, where armed gunmen attacked two civilian vehicles and abducted several passengers. One civilian was killed in the attack.
Troops immediately mobilised to the scene and launched a coordinated pursuit backed by aerial surveillance. The sustained pressure forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the rescue of all 17 passengers, who were subsequently handed over to the appropriate authorities.
In a separate but related incident on the same day, troops responded to a terrorist attack at Chohi Village in Isa LGA, where armed bandits had attempted to abduct farmers working on their farmlands. Troops rapidly deployed to the area and pursued the fleeing attackers, rescuing five kidnapped farmers who were later reunited with their families.
Following both operations, troops conducted confidence-building patrols across surrounding communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure residents and deny terrorists freedom of movement.
Danja said the operations underscored the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property across the North-West region, adding that troops remained determined to sustain security across the theatre of operations.
