Nigerian gospel music producer Eezee Tee has launched a stinging critique of the gospel music industry, describing it as riddled with hypocrisy, pretence, and hidden wrongdoing that rivals and possibly surpasses what is openly criticised in secular music circles.
In a post on his Instagram page, the businessman and record label executive said the industry’s heavy religious coating makes it difficult for outsiders to see what truly goes on behind the scenes.
“The Gospel Music Industry is darker than what you think. It is clothed in hypocrisy, lies, denials, pretence, and deep religion, so folks rarely see through it,” he wrote.
Eezee Tee, who has operated in both the gospel and secular music spaces, said the industry has largely shifted from spiritual authenticity to performative entertainment driven by emotions rather than genuine faith.
He also turned the lens on gospel artists who publicly condemn secular music, suggesting many of them are privately aware of the rot within their own industry.
“Most of the gospel folks who criticise the secular industry know this for a fact,” he said, adding that those who dare to challenge misconduct are typically shunned and turned into targets.
“Once you stand against evil, you’re hated and become a target. May Jesus help us,” the producer concluded.
