The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has warned officers of the Nigeria Police Force against acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Force, declaring that there is no longer any room for indiscipline or impunity.
The warning was issued on Wednesday during his familiarisation tour of the Warri Area Command, where he also paid courtesy visits to prominent traditional rulers as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve security collaboration across the state.
During the tour, the police commissioner visited the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Kingsley Emakpo Orereh (Igbi II); and the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Dr. Ogheneochuko Morris Eyekpimi-Egboboyen (Owhotemu II).
CP Oyeniyi commended the monarchs for their continued support to the Nigeria Police Force, describing traditional institutions as critical partners in promoting peace, security, and effective policing at the grassroots.
He also reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on strengthening collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to enhance community-based policing.
In their separate remarks, the traditional rulers welcomed the commissioner and pledged their continued support for security agencies in maintaining peace and order within their respective kingdoms.
The visit concluded with an interactive session involving officers and personnel of the Warri Area Command, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, CP Oyeniyi urged officers to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and integrity in the discharge of their duties. He stressed the importance of treating members of the public with respect, protecting human rights, and complying with all existing police regulations.
He cautioned officers against actions capable of bringing the Force into disrepute, insisting that accountability and ethical conduct must remain the guiding principles of policing in the state.
The commissioner also warned personnel against violating the Nigeria Police Force’s Social Media Policy, reminding them that their behaviour, both online and offline, must reflect the values and standards expected of police officers.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven and community-oriented policing, CP Oyeniyi called on residents and stakeholders to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and public safety.
According to him, effective policing can only be achieved through sustained cooperation between security agencies and the communities they serve.
