Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the payment of a 13th-month salary bonus for civil servants in Delta State as part of efforts to reward their dedication and improve workers’ welfare.
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during the Dinner and Award Night held in Asaba to mark the 2026 Public Service Week celebration.
The declaration was greeted with loud applause from civil servants and other guests at the event, who welcomed the initiative as a major boost for the state’s workforce.
Oborevwori said the annual bonus is intended to recognize the commitment, hard work, and sacrifices of public servants who have continued to contribute to the growth and development of Delta State.
According to him, the additional payment is expected to enhance workers’ welfare while motivating them to remain diligent and committed to delivering quality public service.
With the approval, Oborevwori becomes the first governor of Delta State to introduce a 13th-month salary bonus for state civil servants.
The 2026 Public Service Week was organized to celebrate the contributions of public servants and acknowledge their critical role in implementing government policies and delivering essential services across the state.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, recently disclosed that the Federal Government is considering another review of workers’ salaries. He noted that the ₦70,000 national minimum wage approved by President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2024 no longer reflects the country’s current economic realities.
