Former First Lady Aisha Buhari says the greatest legacy left behind by her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, was his steadfast commitment to education and human capital development.
She spoke on Sunday at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
The project is being funded from proceeds of the book From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, which documents the life and public service of the late Nigerian leader.
Speaking to dignitaries at the event, Aisha Buhari described the initiative as a practical expression of her family’s determination to preserve her husband’s legacy through investment in knowledge and innovation rather than physical monuments.
“Today marks far more than the commencement of a new building; it marks the beginning of a vision that equips future generations with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” she said.
She added that the complex would stand as “a lasting testament to the enduring legacy of our late leader, General Muhammadu Buhari, whose life was defined by duty, discipline, integrity and unwavering commitment to national development.”
According to her, channeling proceeds from the legacy book into an educational facility reflects the belief that “the greatest memorial we can build is not merely one of concrete and steel, but one that nurtures knowledge, character and opportunity for generations yet unborn.”
She further noted that as technology continues to shape global development, nations investing in computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering and digital innovation would be the ones charting the future.
Aisha Buhari closed her remarks with prayers for the institution, expressing hope that every lecture held in the complex would inspire excellence, and that its graduates would combine integrity with intelligence in driving development across Katsina State, Nigeria and the African continent.
