Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has expressed fears over his safety, saying he may not even be alive to participate in Nigeria’s next general election.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, which was shared on X on Wednesday.
Speaking about the political climate and his future ambitions, Obi said he could not guarantee he would be on the ballot in 2027 because of what he described as persistent efforts to frustrate his personal and business activities.
According to him, every aspect of his livelihood is being deliberately hindered, adding that there is a possibility he could be prevented from contesting if the current situation continues.
“I might not even be a candidate. I might not even be alive,” Obi said, alleging that everything he does for a living is being deliberately obstructed.
Although he stopped short of directly accusing anyone of plotting against him, the former presidential candidate claimed he regularly encounters actions that suggest he is being targeted. He said the obstacles are often indirect but consistent enough to indicate a coordinated effort.
Obi further alleged that opposition figures across the country are facing similar treatment, claiming they are being personally targeted and denied privileges ordinarily available to them.
He recounted an incident at an airport where officials allegedly locked his vehicle while leaving other vehicles untouched. According to him, even after identifying himself, the officer in charge ignored his complaint.
Obi said the incident reinforced his belief that he is being singled out because of his political stance.
The former governor also claimed that some of his supporters and associates now avoid being publicly linked to him out of fear of possible repercussions. He disclosed that several people have privately invited him to family events but later appealed to him not to attend to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
The remarks come amid increasing political activities and alignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with opposition leaders continuing to voice concerns over the country’s political environment.
