The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has directed all registered companies in Nigeria to comply with statutory requirements for business letterheads before August 1, 2026, warning that defaulting organisations will face sanctions once enforcement begins.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the commission said the directive is in line with Sections 304(1), 304(2), and 729(1)(c) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020. The requirements apply to all companies registered under the Act and any previous law it replaced.
Under the provisions of the law, every company is expected to display the present forename or initials and surname of each director on its business letters. Companies must also include any former forename and surname of directors where applicable, as well as the nationality of every director who is not a Nigerian.
Additionally, all official business letters must clearly show the company’s registered name, registration number, and registered office address in a legible format.
The CAC stated that full enforcement of these provisions will commence on August 1, 2026, adding that companies that fail to comply with the requirements will be sanctioned in accordance with the law.
The commission urged businesses to immediately review their letterheads and other official correspondence to ensure they meet the legal standards before the deadline.
According to the CAC, the enforcement exercise is aimed at improving corporate transparency by ensuring companies provide accurate information about their directors and corporate identity in official communications. The commission added that the move will strengthen compliance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act while promoting accountability within Nigeria’s corporate sector.
The CAC also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery as it continues efforts to build a more responsive and effective corporate regulatory system.
