Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced that his family will sponsor university education for children and dependants of persons who lost their lives during the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return, describing the document as more than a personal achievement but a reflection of the trust and confidence reposed in him by Osun residents.
Adeleke noted that while his victory called for celebration, it was equally important not to lose sight of the families who suffered losses as a result of violence recorded during the poll.
He revealed that the state government has set up a N500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund to cater for those affected by the unrest, adding that his family would complement this initiative through a separate scholarship scheme covering education up to the university level.
“As we celebrate, we must also remember those who lost their lives and those affected by electoral violence. We have launched a N500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund to support victims of these incidents, while the Adeleke family will provide scholarships up to university level for the children and dependants of those who lost their lives,” Adeleke said.
The governor commended Osun residents for their courage and unwavering commitment to the democratic process, describing the outcome of the election as a collective triumph for the people rather than a personal one.
“This victory belongs to you. This certificate belongs to you. Osun, we move forward together,” he added.
