Customers of United Bank for Africa (UBA) have flooded social media with complaints after being locked out of their accounts on the bank’s mobile application for several days running.
Multiple users on X (formerly Twitter) reported that the UBA app had been inaccessible since Sunday, forcing them to fall back on ATM cards, USSD codes, and physical branch visits to carry out basic transactions.
The outage has reignited frustration among customers who say the app has suffered repeated disruptions over the past two months, making it increasingly unreliable for transfers and everyday banking needs.
As of press time, UBA had yet to issue a public statement addressing the cause of the outage or providing a timeline for restoring full service.
Angry customers took turns venting on X. One user, @FalolaOpeyemi5, said the app had been unusable for over 24 hours and questioned how a bank of UBA’s size could keep failing its customers. Another, @HoshOdyssey, accused the bank of forcing customers onto an unfinished platform, asking pointedly whether UBA was trying to withhold access to their funds.
Other users described the outage as leaving them unable to buy food or access cash for daily needs. @Gigi_SaidWhat said the prolonged downtime had left them unable to feed themselves, while @iam__temmyyy said they had gone without meals for a day due to the disruption. @Amaray252 claimed the app had been down for three days despite attempts to fix it via different network providers, while @PetrJoe said reinstalling the app on an Android 14 device had not resolved the issue.
Several customers tagged UBA Group’s official handles and its GMD/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, along with Chairman Tony Elumelu, demanding urgent intervention and better communication from the bank.
Complaints about network reliability and recurring app crashes have persisted across the customer base, with many describing the bank’s digital platform as increasingly difficult to depend on.
UBA has not responded publicly to the complaints as of the time of this report.
