Global ride-hailing company Uber has announced that it will discontinue its services in Nigeria and Uganda, effective Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The company disclosed the decision in a statement, explaining that it followed a comprehensive review of its operations in the two countries.
According to Uber, the decision is limited to Nigeria and Uganda and will not affect its operations in other African markets.
“After a thorough review, we have taken the difficult decision to wind down operations in Nigeria and Uganda, effective September 2, 2026,” the company said.
Uber added that its immediate focus would be on assisting drivers, riders and members of its local teams as the company manages the transition.
The move brings an end to Uber’s operations in two African markets where its ride-hailing services have been available to commuters and drivers.
The company did not provide further details on the specific factors that led to the decision in the statement.
