Ondo State Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, has urged inmates across correctional facilities in the state to embrace vocational and educational training as a pathway to a better life after prison.
Adelami gave the charge on Saturday during a visit to the Olokuta Medium Security Correctional Centre in Akure, where he interacted with inmates and provided them with spiritual support, encouragement, and welfare items, including foodstuffs.
Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Governor, who also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Prison Fellowship Nigeria, urged the inmates to deepen their faith and make the most of the rehabilitation opportunities available to them in custody.
“Please seek God, strengthen your faith and use this opportunity to acquire skills that will make you self-reliant when you regain your freedom,” he said. “Do not allow the mistakes of your past to define your future; let them become lessons that will guide you towards a better life.”
Adelami noted that vocational and educational training would be central to helping inmates reintegrate successfully into society, adding that such skills would give them a productive means of livelihood once released. He urged them to take their rehabilitation seriously.
