The Lagos State Government has dismissed a viral video claiming people are currently living under the Oja Oba Bridge, insisting the footage is outdated and does not reflect the present situation at the site.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday, noting that his attention was drawn to the clip after a user shared it online, alleging that residents were still squatting under the bridge.
Wahab said the video was actually recorded about two years ago and had been wrongly circulated as a recent occurrence.
“I wish to clarify that the video is an old recording, taken approximately two years ago, and does not reflect the current situation at the location,” he said.
The commissioner urged bloggers, influencers, and media platforms to verify information before publishing or sharing content with the public, warning that the spread of outdated or misleading materials could trigger unnecessary public concern and pile pressure on government agencies working to keep the state clean and safe.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and environmentally sustainable state, and called on residents to support these efforts by sharing only accurate and verified information.
