Tributes have continued to pour in for Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, a prominent Lagos grassroots leader who died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the age of 83.
The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, led the tributes, describing Faronbi as a respected figure whose contributions to the union and the wider community would remain part of his legacy.
Faronbi’s death was confirmed by his family, and burial rites were conducted shortly afterward in line with Islamic tradition.
Beyond his standing in the transport sector, Faronbi wielded traditional, commercial and political influence across several parts of Lagos. He was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and held the chieftaincy title of Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom.
In the commercial sphere, he was known as the Babaloja of Aswani International Market, a role that placed him at the heart of trading activities in the area for years.
His burial drew relatives, friends, community members and notable figures from across Lagos, including Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Mushin Local Government Executive Chairman Tunbosun Aruwe, and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman Dr Oluseyi Jakande.
Faronbi was also a well-known figure in Lagos’ entertainment circles, with close ties to leading Fuji and juju musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Osupa Saheed and Alabi Pasuma. He also had interests in real estate and land development, though some of his dealings in the sector at times drew disputes with communities and other parties.
His death has triggered a wave of tributes from politicians, transport union leaders, entertainers, traders and residents of Mushin, many of whom continue to mourn a man who occupied several spheres of influence in Lagos’ grassroots life.
