Zenith Bank Plc has announced that its customers can now use Google Pay to make payments more conveniently and securely, marking another step in the bank’s efforts to improve digital banking services.
The new development allows eligible Zenith Bank cardholders to add their supported bank cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay to make payments at participating contactless payment terminals, as well as complete purchases online and through supported mobile applications without repeatedly entering their card details.
The introduction of the service comes as more Nigerians embrace digital payment methods for shopping, bill payments and other financial transactions. Zenith Bank said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to providing customers with convenient, secure and technology-driven banking solutions.
Google Pay Offers Faster and More Secure Payments
Google Pay uses a security technology known as tokenisation, which replaces a customer’s actual card number with a digital token during transactions. This helps protect sensitive card information and reduces the need to expose actual card details when making payments.
For Zenith Bank customers, the service offers several benefits, including enhanced security, faster checkout and greater convenience when making payments across supported platforms.
Customers with compatible devices can tap their phones at participating contactless payment terminals to complete transactions. They can also use the service for eligible online purchases and in-app payments without repeatedly entering their card information.
The bank noted that the availability of these services depends on card eligibility, device compatibility, merchant acceptance and the payment options supported by individual platforms.
The additional security features are expected to give customers greater confidence when using their mobile devices for everyday financial transactions.
Zenith Bank Builds on Its History of Innovation
The introduction of Google Pay builds on Zenith Bank’s longstanding investment in technology and efforts to improve customer experience.
In 2007, the bank opened what it described as Nigeria’s first ATM gallery, a full-fledged banking facility without human tellers that provided customers with access to cash, including on weekends and public holidays.
At a time when customers often had to endure long queues in conventional banking halls, the initiative offered an alternative designed to improve accessibility and make banking more convenient.
Zenith Bank said the same commitment to innovation continues to guide its digital banking strategy as it develops services that meet the changing needs of customers.
The bank’s latest move reflects the growing role of mobile technology in the financial sector, where customers increasingly expect faster, simpler and more secure ways to manage their money.
Zenith Bank CEO Highlights Digital Innovation
The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, OON, described the development as part of the bank’s digitally forward approach to banking.
She also highlighted the upcoming Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026, scheduled for November 5, which will be held under the theme Future Forward 6.0.
The event is expected to provide another platform for discussions on technological advancement, digital transformation and the future of financial services.
The bank’s continued investment in technology reflects its ambition to strengthen its position in digital banking while delivering services that improve convenience and security for individuals and businesses.
How Zenith Bank Customers Can Use Google Pay
Eligible Zenith Bank customers can get started by opening Google Wallet on a compatible device, selecting the option to add a payment card and following the required verification process.
Once the card has been successfully added, customers can use Google Pay to make payments at participating contactless terminals and through supported online and in-app checkout services.
However, customers should confirm that their cards and devices are eligible and that the merchants they intend to patronise accept the service.
