SIFAX Boss, Dr Taiwo Afolabi’s Massive Investment in Education

Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, a maritime billionaire and business magnate, is known for his commitment to impactful ventures rather than trivial distractions. His remarkable journey to success began early in life, fueled by a desire to silence critics with tangible results rather than mere words. Today, he presides over a diverse business conglomerate valued in the millions, yet he continues to work diligently to sustain and expand his empire.

Afolabi’s philanthropic spirit is evident through his foundation, named in honor of his late mother, the Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation. He takes pride in giving back to the community, having positively impacted countless lives. Driven by a deep commitment to education and its rapidly changing landscape, he has prioritized initiatives that leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to empower the youth. Recently, he spearheaded a program that trained 90 students in Lagos in AI and practical technology skills, focusing on youth empowerment through technology, machine learning, and computer literacy.

Held at State Senior Secondary School in Oyewole, Agege, this initiative was executed in collaboration with the World Bank as part of the foundation’s Community Connections Campaign Projects throughout Nigeria. The training was meticulously designed to equip young participants with essential skills that not only improve their academic performance but also enhance their employability and open avenues for entrepreneurship. Students were selected from various classes within the school, with the expectation that they would become conduits of knowledge, sharing what they learned with their peers to amplify the program’s impact on the broader student community.

The initiative received enthusiastic support from school administrators, who described it as both timely and transformative. Vice Principal Mrs. Sherifat Ajala expressed gratitude to the Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation and SIFAX Group for providing students with direct access to technology experts and valuable hands-on learning experiences. To further enhance digital learning in the school, the foundation generously donated a projector, a laptop, and a projector screen at the conclusion of the training.

The Agege training program is a significant addition to Afolabi’s expanding education empowerment initiative, which has reached a growing list of institutions. Reports indicate that schools in Badagry, Epe, Ile Epo, Ifako Ijaiye, Alimosho, and parts of Ondo State have also benefited from similar training and resources. With nearly 600 students trained to date, the Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation is making strides to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide, preparing the next generation for a technology-driven economy and ensuring that young people have the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
