A 100-year-old voter in Ekiti State, Madam Oyedade, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and state governors to take urgent action to address the country’s growing insecurity.
Speaking with journalists while waiting for accreditation at Polling Unit 001 in Aye Ward, Aye Ekiti, located in Ido/Osi Local Government Area, the centenarian expressed concern over the safety of Nigerians, stating that insecurity has become a major challenge across the nation.
Madam Oyedade, who came out to participate in the Ekiti governorship election, said her desire was to see the most competent candidate emerge victorious at the polls.
According to her, Nigerians no longer feel secure in their daily lives, and government leaders must work together to find a lasting solution to the problem.
“I came out to vote because I want the best candidate to win. I also want to appeal to President Bola Tinubu and all state governors to urgently address insecurity. Nobody feels safe anymore, and that is unfortunate,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, raised concerns over delays caused by the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at his polling unit.
After casting his vote at Unit 6, Ward 3, Osagburu Family Hall in Ikere-Ekiti, Oluyede complained that the accreditation device experienced technical difficulties, slowing down the voting process.
The PDP candidate noted that only a handful of voters had been accredited several hours after voting began, describing the situation as unacceptable.
INEC officials were reportedly working to resolve the issue and restore normal operations at the polling unit.
