The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu would lose the 2027 presidential election before 4 p.m. if the poll is conducted freely and fairly.
Baba-Ahmed made the remark while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday.
According to the PRP chairman, the current economic situation and living conditions of Nigerians do not reflect the positive picture that government statistics may suggest.
He argued that many Nigerians, particularly those in the northern part of the country, are struggling with poverty, limited economic opportunities and a lack of industrial development.
Baba-Ahmed said, “There is no sense in the manner in which people live, the poverty level, the country’s economy. I come from the Northern part of the country and there is no industry, including agriculture.”
He further accused Tinubu of being disconnected from the realities confronting ordinary Nigerians, insisting that government statistics should not be the only measure of the country’s progress.
“Tinubu is detached from the realities of Nigerians and I don’t think that he got all the indices, figures and statistics which can be manufactured,” he said.
The PRP chairman maintained that the true state of the country could best be determined by examining how Nigerians are actually living.
Baba-Ahmed subsequently declared that Tinubu could suffer defeat early on election day if the 2027 presidential election is credible, free and fair.
“If it’s a credible, free, and fair election, Tinubu will lose maybe before 4 p.m.,” he stated.
He also criticised the President for publicly defending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that such comments could create doubts about the neutrality of the electoral process.
According to him, a sitting president seeking re-election should avoid praising or defending the electoral body publicly, as doing so could create the perception that he is seeking its favour.
“Nobody should praise INEC for conducting an election in which the president is a contestant; it’s wrong, unbecoming, and all it does is that it’s creating this idea that the president is courting the goodwill of INEC, which is wrong,” Baba-Ahmed added.
