Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed skepticism over the presidential prospects of Peter Obi.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Bwala argued that Obi lacks the widespread grassroots support required to win a national election. He maintained that the former Anambra State governor’s popularity is largely driven by his online supporters, popularly known as the “Obidient” movement, rather than a well-established political structure across the country.
Bwala also referenced Obi’s engagement with religious groups, suggesting that his messaging portrays the church as politically marginalized. According to him, while such a narrative may resonate with certain audiences, it does not necessarily translate into the broad-based support needed to secure victory in a presidential race.
He further stressed that strong social media presence does not automatically convert into electoral success, noting that Obi may struggle to transform online enthusiasm into real political influence at the grassroots level.
In his words, Obi’s current support base may not be sufficient to propel him to the presidency, as he lacks the nationwide political network required to reach Aso Villa.
