Dora Adebayo, wife of veteran journalist Sola Adebayo, has been elected as the Second Vice District Governor of Lions International Multiple District 404 Nigeria during the organisation’s 19th Multiple District Convention held in Asaba, Delta State.
The five-day convention, tagged “Asaba Amaka 2026,” commenced on Wednesday with the theme: “Building Bridges of Service and Unity.”
Announcing the election results, Chairperson of the Nomination and Election Committee, Lion Patricia Udeme, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
According to Udeme, Adebayo secured victory with 75 votes, defeating her opponent, Lion Evelyn Imokhe, who polled 32 votes.
She explained that out of 119 registered voters, 115 delegates were accredited, while 115 votes were cast. Of the total votes, 107 were declared valid, while eight were rejected.
Udeme, a former District Governor of Lions Clubs International, commended members for participating peacefully and accepting the outcome of the election in good faith.
She noted that the organisation’s leadership structure was designed to equip members for greater responsibilities through mentorship and continuous leadership training.
She added that although all contestants were qualified, delegates eventually voted for the candidate they believed was best suited for the position.
Adebayo is expected to officially assume office as Second Vice District Governor of District 404-A4 Nigeria in July.
Reacting to her victory, Adebayo expressed appreciation to members of the organisation for the confidence reposed in her, describing the outcome as a collective victory for all members.
She pledged to serve with humility and dedication, promising to focus on empowerment, unity, and humanitarian service during her tenure.
Adebayo also promised to prioritise support for members and vulnerable individuals through programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
She stressed the importance of stronger collaboration among members, noting that unity remained vital for the growth and success of the organisation.
“I remain committed to serving humanity and justifying the confidence placed in me by members,” she said.
The convention also featured leadership sessions, humanitarian discussions, policy deliberations, and community-focused initiatives, including programmes supporting children battling cancer.
The event attracted Lions and Leos from across Nigeria, alongside government officials, traditional rulers, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by several dignitaries, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
