Bayero University Kano (BUK) has extended the application deadline for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for eligible students in the 2025/2026 academic session.
The extension was announced in a special bulletin issued by the university and signed on behalf of the Registrar by the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba.
According to the statement released on Saturday in Kano, the decision to reopen the NELFUND application portal followed a request by the university management to give more students the opportunity to complete their applications.
The application portal, which reopened on May 8, 2026, will remain accessible until May 29, 2026.
Garba explained that the extension offers a final chance for students who have completed their screening process to apply for both institutional charges and upkeep support through the official NELFUND portal.
He advised applicants to carefully follow all application guidelines and ensure that all required documents are properly uploaded to avoid delays or possible disqualification.
The university also stressed that applications for tuition-related charges and upkeep allowances must be submitted together, warning that separate applications may not be processed.
Garba further cautioned students against using microfinance wallet accounts such as Opay and Moniepoint during the application process.
He also urged applicants to provide valid and accessible email addresses and keep their passwords secure, as they would be needed to monitor their application status.
The university encouraged all eligible students to take advantage of the extended deadline and complete their applications before the portal closes on May 29.
