Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the House of Representatives seat representing Sandamu/Daura/Maiadua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.
Yusuf recorded a sweeping victory in the primary, polling 5,849 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Hon. Auwal Lawal Daura, who managed only 21 votes.
The outcome of the election has generated strong reactions across Katsina State and other parts of the country, with many APC supporters, especially young party members, describing the result as a sign of Yusuf Buhari’s increasing popularity and grassroots support within the constituency.
Political observers believe the huge margin of victory also reflects the continued influence of the Buhari political family in northern Nigeria, particularly in Katsina, the home state of the late former president.
Analysts say Yusuf Buhari’s emergence may represent a new phase for the Buhari political dynasty, as the family appears set to maintain a strong presence in regional politics ahead of future elections.
With the APC ticket now secured, Yusuf Buhari is expected to contest in the general election, a move that could officially mark the beginning of his career in Nigeria’s legislative and national political space.
