A group of community leaders under the umbrella of the Ekiti South Senatorial District Elders Forum has passed a vote of no confidence in Senator Yemi Adaramodu, accusing him of poor representation, unfulfilled promises, and lack of connection with grassroots communities.
The forum, made up of elders from different local government areas in Ekiti State, said the decision came after reviewing the senator’s performance since he assumed office in 2023.
In a statement signed by the convener, Elder Adebisi Ogunyemi, the group said it had completely lost trust in Adaramodu’s ability to effectively represent the district beyond his current term.
According to the elders, true leadership should bring visible development, accessibility, and quick response to the needs of the people rather than political speeches alone.
Some community leaders also pointed to projects and promises they claimed had not been fulfilled.
Chief Babajide Oluwanisola from Emure-Ekiti alleged that the senator promised during his campaign to renovate damaged primary healthcare centres in the area, but no action has been taken so far. He said residents are still struggling with poor medical facilities.
Also speaking, Elder Idowu Olowokere from Ise-Orun accused the senator of failing to fulfill a promise to renovate the palace of the traditional ruler years after the election.
In Egbe-Ekiti, Elder Bayo Abegunde claimed the community had been abandoned, adding that residents now provide basic infrastructure and security on their own due to the lack of government presence.
A traditional chief from Ikere-Ekiti described Adaramodu’s performance as one of the worst representations the district has witnessed since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.
The elders insisted that Ekiti South deserves better representation considering the district’s human and natural resources.
Although the forum did not endorse any candidate ahead of future elections because members belong to different political parties, it urged residents to support leaders who demonstrate competence, accountability, and genuine commitment to public service.
“As elders, we must speak honestly about the condition of our communities. We cannot continue to watch our people suffer neglect and underdevelopment,” Ogunyemi stated.
The development is expected to increase political tension in the district ahead of the 2027 general elections.
