Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to step down as manager of Manchester City at the end of the current season.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the Spanish coach will officially leave his position on Sunday after City’s final Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.
Guardiola is expected to be honoured on Monday during a special celebration marking the end of his successful spell at the club.
The 55-year-old manager has enjoyed an extraordinary 10-year reign at Manchester City, winning 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first UEFA Champions League triumph. He also guided the team to a historic run of four consecutive league titles.
Manchester City are still chasing another Premier League crown this season, although their hopes depend on Arsenal dropping points in one of their remaining matches.
Reports indicate that Manchester City have already informed some sponsors that Guardiola’s departure announcement is imminent. Sources close to the manager reportedly described the development as an “open secret.”
The report further stated that Guardiola’s achievements in English football will be celebrated during an open-top bus parade scheduled for Monday. The parade is expected to begin from Manchester’s Northern Quarter before ending outside the Colin Bell Stand at the Etihad Stadium.
