President Bola Tinubu has formally accepted the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general election after emerging victorious at the party’s presidential primary.
Tinubu received the APC flag and certificate of return during a ceremony held in Abuja on Sunday. The presentation was made by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, following the President’s official declaration as the party’s candidate.
In his acceptance speech, Tinubu thanked the leadership of the APC, governors, members of the National Assembly, and party supporters for their loyalty and continued confidence in his administration.
The President described the moment as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, stressing that the focus of his administration remains the consolidation of reforms and national development.
Reflecting on his emergence as APC candidate in 2022, Tinubu recalled standing before party delegates alongside other aspirants before eventually becoming President of Nigeria with the support of the party and Nigerians.
According to him, the mission ahead is to sustain progress and strengthen the foundations of a modern and prosperous Nigeria.
Tinubu stated that since assuming office, his administration has introduced several reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and improving governance.
He highlighted achievements in the education sector, noting that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has disbursed over ₦282 billion to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.
On electricity, the President said the government has supplied 2.5 million meters through the Presidential Metering Initiative to reduce estimated billing, while also establishing a ₦4 trillion bond programme to settle longstanding debts owed to power generation and gas companies.
He added that electricity generation under his administration has at times reached 6,000 megawatts, which he described as a major improvement compared to previous years.
Tinubu defended his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate adjustments, saying the policies were necessary to rescue the economy from instability and attract investment.
The President said Nigeria’s foreign reserves are improving and the economy is showing positive signs despite global economic pressures and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking on infrastructure, Tinubu said his government has prioritised investments in roads, transportation, power, housing, digital connectivity, irrigation, airports, and seaports to drive inclusive growth and economic expansion.
He also noted that reforms in the oil and gas sector have attracted fresh investments worth billions of dollars.
Addressing security concerns, Tinubu acknowledged that insecurity remains a challenge in some parts of the country but assured Nigerians that his administration is committed to restoring peace and protecting lives and property.
He said the government has intensified support for the armed forces and police through improved intelligence, surveillance systems, and modern equipment.
Tinubu also urged the National Assembly to support constitutional amendments that would allow the establishment of state police, describing it as an urgent national priority.
The President admitted that many Nigerians are still facing hardship due to ongoing economic adjustments but insisted that the reforms are necessary for long-term national stability and prosperity.
He promised that another four years under his leadership would further strengthen economic growth, industrialisation, food security, infrastructure, and democratic governance.
Tinubu called on Nigerians to remain united despite political and ethnic differences, stressing that democracy thrives through dialogue, diversity, and collective effort.
He also extended a hand of partnership to opposition voices, saying nation-building requires cooperation and shared commitment to progress.
The President pledged to build a more inclusive government that listens to citizens and prioritises the welfare of all Nigerians.
Tinubu concluded by thanking APC members for nominating him as the party’s flagbearer for the January 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that Nigeria would achieve greater peace, unity, and prosperity under continued APC leadership.
