President Bola Tinubu has revealed that he has personally felt the impact of the economic reforms introduced by his administration, saying he has lost weight and sleep alongside Nigerians facing hardship.
The president made the statement on Saturday while addressing party supporters and leaders at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja after winning the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary with 10,999,162 votes.
Tinubu said he understands the pain many Nigerians are going through as a result of the sweeping fiscal and economic reforms carried out over the past three years.
According to him, fixing the country’s economic challenges requires sacrifice and commitment from both the government and citizens.
“I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you have lost sleep, I have also lost sleep. If you have lost weight, I have lost weight too,” he said.
The president added that he remains determined to continue the reforms because Nigerians entrusted him with leadership in 2022.
“I asked for this job in 2022 and you all supported me to get it. So, I must continue to do the work,” Tinubu stated.
He also praised the conduct of the APC primary election, describing the process as peaceful and free from violence.
Tinubu said he monitored the exercise closely on television after casting his vote and was impressed by the massive turnout of supporters in states such as Kano, Kaduna and Cross River.
“It was a great feeling to witness a peaceful process without bloodshed or rancour. This is the kind of politics we want in Nigeria,” he added.
Tinubu defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, who secured 16,503 votes in the direct primary election conducted across the country’s 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards.
