Gunmen suspected to be assassins have killed a young politician and community mobiliser, Samuel Obe Ngobe, in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The attack reportedly happened on May 22 after the assailants stormed a hotel belonging to the deceased in the community.
According to sources, the attackers went straight to Ngobe and opened fire on him at close range.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the two masked gunmen arrived at the hotel on a motorcycle before carrying out the attack.
The assailants allegedly shot the politician dead and fled the scene immediately after seizing mobile phones from hotel workers to stop them from raising an alarm.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said investigations into the killing had begun.
“Investigation is ongoing on the matter,” Kaborlo stated.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command has confirmed an attack by suspected bandits on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The police said the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on May 25, 2026, when armed men launched a coordinated attack on the community.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the attackers set parts of the Emir’s palace ablaze and abducted 10 persons during the operation.
The command, however, noted that officers at the Yashikira Divisional Headquarters successfully repelled the attack on the police station.
