A high-ranking Nigerian police officer, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Kanayo Uzuegbu, who headed Zone 9 Headquarters in Umuahia, has passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti broke the news at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, where those gathered observed a minute’s silence in tribute to the late officer.
Governor Otti paid glowing tribute to Uzuegbu, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking professional who served the Nigeria Police Force with distinction throughout his career. He noted that the loss was deeply felt not only by the deceased’s family but also by colleagues, the police institution, and the wider security community.
The governor offered prayers for the repose of Uzuegbu’s soul and called on God to grant his family, friends, and loved ones the strength to endure the painful loss.
Uzuegbu’s death has sent shockwaves through the personnel of Zone 9, which covers several police formations that operated under his command. Fellow officers, associates, and stakeholders who worked alongside him described his passing as a significant blow to the security structure of the zone.
He is remembered as an officer who brought professionalism and commitment to every aspect of his service to the nation.
