Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has been elected Chairman of the UN Budget and Administration Committee.
The position places him at the centre of key financial, budgeting and administrative oversight functions within the United Nations system.
In a statement following his election, Ibrahim expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, describing the development as a significant honour.
“It is indeed an honour for me to be elected Chairman of Budget and Administration of the United Nations today, 2nd June 2026,” he said.
He added: “Let me express my profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”
Referring to Nigeria’s reform agenda, he noted that policy lessons from the country would guide his approach to budgeting, appropriations and human resources management at the global body.
Ibrahim also thanked Nigerians for what he described as a historic achievement, pledging to work with representatives of all 193 member states.
He said he remained committed to providing strategic leadership in addressing complex global administrative and financial challenges at a critical time in international affairs.
