Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the kidnapping incident at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road, Benin City, calling it unacceptable and a direct attack on innocent residents.
Naija News reports that the condemnation was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Akhere Ebojele, on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Okpebholo directed the Commissioner of Police in Edo State to launch a swift and coordinated investigation into the incident, aimed at securing the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.
He warned that his administration would not tolerate any act that threatens public safety or disturbs the peace of the state, stressing that protecting lives and property remained a top priority for the government.
The governor urged residents of Benin City and other parts of Edo State to stay alert and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station, noting that timely information from the public would strengthen ongoing security operations.
Okpebholo reaffirmed that the government would not relent until those behind the kidnapping were arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.
