Politician Funso Doherty has been confirmed as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate for Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Doherty announced his acceptance of the nomination in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, describing the development as one he received with humility and a clear sense of purpose.
“With profound humility, gratitude, and a clear sense of purpose, I accept our party’s nomination to serve as its candidate for Governor of Lagos State in 2027,” he wrote, adding that Lagos deserves inclusive leadership that works for all residents.
He also credited the NDC leadership for the confidence they placed in him and signalled that the work of building a better Lagos had already begun, closing his message with the phrase: “My friends, it’s time – O TI Ya!”
The NDC’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, also took to X to affirm Doherty’s emergence, predicting that the development spells trouble for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, @funsodoherty is the candidate of our great party, the NDC in Lagos State. It is over for the APC in Lagos,” Agada wrote.
