The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of running supplies to bandits and criminal groups operating in forests and remote areas across the state.
The suspect was nabbed in Ilorin by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, following credible intelligence and weeks of covert surveillance.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, saying investigators recovered a large quantity of assorted cigarettes and other rations from the suspect — items believed to form part of a logistics chain servicing criminal networks.
More damning, however, were photographs found on the suspect’s mobile phone showing him dressed in military camouflage and seated on a Bajaj motorcycle. Police say the images have strengthened leads on his alleged ties to armed groups.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect plays a strategic support role within a broader network responsible for providing sustenance and other forms of assistance to bandits and allied criminal elements,” Adeyemi said.
She added that operatives were working to identify and arrest other members of the suspected supply network.
Kwara Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo said the command was intensifying operations to target not just armed criminals but everyone sustaining them — from logistics handlers and suppliers to informants and collaborators.
“The command will continue to focus on dismantling the structures that give criminal groups access to resources, freedom of movement and operational support,” Ojo said.
He vowed that anyone found connected to the logistics network would be prosecuted.
The police also called on residents to stay alert and share useful information with security agencies to help prevent attacks and expose criminal collaborators.
