Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared that incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress has effectively sealed victory in Saturday’s governorship election, even as voting was still underway.
Fayose made the bold prediction shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1, St. David Primary School, Afao-Ekiti, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.
“Oyebanji has already won the election,” the former governor told journalists. “If you look at the state of things in the state and the body language of the people, I am predicting an overwhelming victory for him.”
He cited prevailing political sentiment and the general mood of residents as indicators of strong statewide support for the APC candidate.
In a separate development, African Democratic Congress governorship candidate Dare Bejide cast his ballot at the Oke Adura Polling Unit in Ekiti South West Local Government Area, where he praised voter turnout but raised concerns about electoral malpractice.
Bejide alleged that agents of a political party were openly distributing money to voters at the polling unit and said he personally confronted a woman suspected of the act.
“There were allegations that this lady was distributing money, and I confronted her. She called her boss. The council chairman came here and started abusing me,” he said.
