The Kano State Police Command has arrested popular TikToker Fati Cele in connection with the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her home in the Danbare area of Kano.
The arrest was confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement to Punch, though he declined to provide further details, citing ongoing investigations.
“Yes, it’s true — the TikToker is currently being detained over the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye,” Haruna said.
A source close to the deceased told Punch that Cele raised an alarm from her residence, claiming there was a fire, after which Makaye was rushed to Nassarawa Hospital for treatment. He later died from his injuries.
Makaye, a cosmetics trader who resided in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was subsequently buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his remains were released to his family for burial rites.
Officers from the Dorayi Babba Police Division took Cele into custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
