President Bola Tinubu on Thursday called on Nigerians and Federal Capital Territory residents to fulfil their tax obligations, saying increased revenue would enable his administration to deliver more infrastructure across the country.
Tinubu made the appeal during the commissioning of the interchange at Arterial Road N16 – Ring Road III Intersection, which links the Jahi District to the Gwarimpa District in the FCT. He was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking at the commissioning, Tinubu described the project as more than a physical structure, saying it restored freedom of movement and time to commuters who had long endured debilitating gridlock in the area.
“This intersection used to choke the entirety of Abuja — gridlock stretched from Maitama to Gishiri, from Jahi to Gwarimpa; hours lost, fuel wasted, businesses were lost. But today that story ends,” he said.
The president said the interchange would ease commutes, open up key FCT districts, and even improve security, noting that criminals thrive when traffic stands still.
Tinubu described infrastructure as the cornerstone of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying connecting districts was equivalent to connecting destinies and unlocking economic opportunity.
He also struck an optimistic tone about the country’s future, declaring that the Jahi-Gwarimpa interchange was proof that Nigeria was not beyond redemption.
“With focus, discipline, and political will, Nigeria will deliver — and we are delivering,” he said, before urging residents to pay their taxes and levies so government could do even more.
