He may have transited to the world beyond, but on June 19, the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke Serubawon, first Executive Governor of Osun State came alive again, as his beautiful daughter, Ibukunoluwa Adeleke, married her heartthrob of many years, Ibukunoluwakitan Ogunfeyijimi, a US-based groom from Ayesan, Ondo State, in a lavish traditional wedding soiree held in Ede, Osun State.
Though the bride’s father was absent in body, his younger siblings Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, Modupe Sanni-Adeleke and Governor Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke—ensured that not once did Ibukunoluwa feel the lacuna his passing would have created. From the first rite to the final dance, they made certain Senator Isiaka was well represented in spirit and in stature. Many who witnessed the celebration remarked that with the honour bestowed upon his daughter, the late Senator would surely be smiling wherever he is because his siblings left no room for his absence to be felt.
The bride, a fashion connoisseur and owner of Ayoka Couture, radiated joy, her face aglow with smiles throughout the ceremony. Her mother, Mrs. Adenike Adeleke, was equally elated, watching her daughter transition from spinsterhood to married life with grace and grandeur.
The wedding drew an impressive assembly of Nigeria’s top political bigwigs, royal fathers, and society heavyweights, while legendary musicians Yinka Aiyefele and Sir Shina Peters kept guests entertained with unforgettable performances.
Yet, the most emotional moment came when the hall fell silent for a minute’s prayer in honour of the bride’s late father a poignant tribute that moved many to tears. For those spiritually attuned, it was said that Senator Adeleke’s presence was palpable, that he came alive at his daughter’s wedding, watching over the celebration. Indeed, it was a good omen; though death had taken him, his family rose to the occasion, ensuring his daughter received the kind of befitting wedding he would have proudly orchestrated had he been alive.
