The Lagos State Government has postponed all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, following the declaration of the Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division.
In a statement issued through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB) said the affected papers will now be written on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. All other papers in the ongoing exams will hold as originally planned.
Registrar of the LSEB, Adebayo Orunsolu, said the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders and was taken to protect the safety of candidates, examination officials, and other stakeholders, while ensuring the exercise runs smoothly without disruption.
The board expressed regret over any inconvenience the shift may cause and appealed for the cooperation of parents, guardians, school administrators, and candidates.
Candidates have been advised to obtain the revised timetable from their schools and prepare accordingly for the rescheduled papers. The BECE began across Lagos’s six Education Districts on Monday, June 29, and had been billed to end Monday, July 6 — now pushed to July 7 due to the shift.
