Governors from Nigeria’s northern states and leading traditional rulers on Wednesday held an emergency security meeting in Kaduna State to deliberate on the growing security challenges confronting the region and the country.
The high-level meeting, hosted by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, brought together members of the Northern States Governors’ Forum alongside eminent traditional rulers led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III.
The gathering took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the Kaduna State Government House, under the chairmanship of the Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
The strategic session also attracted top federal security officials, including representatives of the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defence, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In attendance were several respected northern leaders, including former Inspectors-General of Police, retired senior military, police and paramilitary officers, as well as former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation.
The meeting centred on developing coordinated strategies to address insecurity across Northern Nigeria and strengthen efforts to improve security nationwide.
