National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has said that despite lacking formal education, his life experiences and practical knowledge have equipped him with greater understanding than many university graduates.
Speaking at the 50th birthday celebration of Islamic singer Hafsat Adegoke and the launch of her new album in Alausa, Lagos, MC Oluomo reflected on his journey from being a teenage bus conductor to becoming the leader of Nigeria’s transport union.
According to him, his rise within the NURTW was achieved through dedication, learning the trade, and years of hard work.
“I did not join the NURTW by chance. I learnt the job, mastered it, and worked my way to the top. Although I did not attend school, the knowledge and wisdom I have gained through life are greater than what many degree holders possess,” he said.
MC Oluomo also recounted how he started earning a living at a young age, revealing that he began working as a bus conductor during his teenage years.
He said he used part of his earnings to watch movies at Danjuma Cinema while still supporting his mother financially by contributing to household expenses.
The NURTW leader noted that although he was unable to obtain a formal education, he ensured his children had access to quality schooling.
He disclosed that his children have gone on to become professionals, including a doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer, all based in the United States.
“If I am uneducated, I thank God. My children are well educated and successful in their various careers. May God continue to protect our children,” he said.
MC Oluomo also stressed the importance of responsible fatherhood, urging men to provide for and care for their families.
He described fathers who neglect their children as failing in their responsibilities before God and expressed concern over the growing number of women who have become the primary breadwinners because some men have abandoned their duties.
He further criticised men who, according to him, devote more attention and resources to children outside their marriages while neglecting their immediate families, calling for greater commitment to family responsibilities.
