Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that she sometimes breaks down in private, even though she is widely known for making people laugh through her movies.
The actress made the disclosure while speaking with CNN journalist Larry Madowo.
According to Akindele, there are moments when life becomes overwhelming and she retreats to her room to cry. She said, however, that she always finds the strength to pick herself up and move on afterwards.
She also spoke about the pressure of living in the public eye, particularly the constant discussion of her marriages and breakups. Akindele admitted that this sometimes makes her doubt her decisions and worry about how people will judge her.
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, hit the bed. But I just pick up myself and come back to life,” she said.
She added that she often challenges herself to stop worrying about opinions and face her challenges head-on.
“I’ve noticed over the years that it’s not all about the work. You need to take care of yourself. You need to love yourself. You need to have time for your family, your loved ones, because as the work would go, the family would be there,” she said.
