Gunmen have abducted four students, the principal of Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc official during an attack on the school in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday while students were writing their NECO examination.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, the attackers invaded the school and whisked away the victims before fleeing the scene.
Security operatives, including the police and other agencies, have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to secure the release of those still in captivity.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, confirmed the attack, revealing that one of the abducted students has already been rescued.
She said efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and track down the gunmen responsible for the attack.
Afusat also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, accompanied by the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser, Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd), was heading to the community to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate security operations.
The police assured residents that further updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available following ongoing investigations and rescue efforts.
