The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over comments he allegedly made directing All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party during Saturday’s governorship election.
The summons follows the circulation of a video in which the senator, speaking in Yoruba at an APC campaign event in Ilesa on Tuesday, allegedly made the controversial statement.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections, Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, the command directed Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, at 11am on Wednesday, August 12, to clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks.
According to TheCable, the letter stated that the invitation followed information available to the police alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during the campaign, adding that the comments had since spread across electronic and social media platforms.
Senator’s Team Clarifies Comment
In the viral video, Fadahunsi was heard telling APC supporters to “kill” Accord Party members if they encountered them during the electoral process. The remark triggered widespread backlash online.
However, the senator’s team has since pushed back on the interpretation, insisting the comment was political rather than literal. In a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the team said Fadahunsi was urging APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party at the polls, not to engage in violence.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement read, describing the remark as a call for supporters to “overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means.”
The controversy comes at a tense point in the countdown to Saturday’s governorship election, in which incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform. Adeleke has repeatedly accused the APC of deploying thugs against his supporters — allegations the party has denied.
